Hair Transplantation - the procedure
Hair Transplantation is a minor office procedure. The technique involves the removal of a specified layer of hair bearing skin from the donor area under local anesthetic. This area is then closed cosmetically using an inferior Trichophytic suture. This Trichophytic closure essentially shows no scar. These donor sutures are removed 10-14 days post-operative. If further procedures are needed, donor hair is removed adjacent to the previous procedure and again is closed Trichophytically which result in a virtually scarless technique in most cases.

In delicately detailed work, the hair bearing donor area are stereo-microscopically divided into I, 2 and 3 hair follicle graft units. One hair follicle unit is for the hairline, 2 hair follicle graft units are for behind the hairline and the 2 and 3 hair follicle units are behind these and the top of the head.

After anesthetizing the scalp area to be transplanted, tiny needle incisions are made in an undulating and random fashion as to rival natural hair growth. The permanent hair bearing grafts are then placed into the sites.

Great care is taken to properly place the grafts at the correct depth, angle and direction so that the finished result will appear completely natural. Because the grafts are so small, bandages are not needed, therefore visibility is minimal.

Some of the transplanted hairs may grow immediately. However, most hairs go into a resting phase for 8-14 weeks before exhibiting growth. This can be a very anxious time. Be assured that these grafts will grow. We ask that you return to the office after 4-6 months so that we may assess your progress. Should the patient so desire, increased density can be accomplished through subsequent treatments. Most patients require 1-3 treatments depending on their individual characteristics and goals of restoration.
